Christian Ronaldo’s 2014 World Cup took a surprising turn when he returned to his hotel to find an unexpected guest had managed to evade security and enter his room.
15-year-old Yago Leal had snuck past the hoard of guards that had been hired to protect the Real Madrid and Portuguese striker. According to the Brazilian newspaper Globo, he did this by apparently scaling the outside wall of the team hotel in Brasilia before he then entered Ronaldo’s room courtesy of the balcony.
Ronaldo discovered Yeal himself in his room, but rather than being perturbed by his intrusion the 2014 Ballon D’or winner decided not to report him to police or hotel officials and instead helped him to escape. Ronaldo was then photographed by Yeal as he used the balcony to leave the building unattended. You can check out the image below:

Leal has since revealed that once he was inside the bedroom he decided to take a rest on Ronaldo’s bed because “he knew he had laid on it.” Ronaldo also signed an autograph for Leal, who is clearly an infatuated fan of the soccer idol.
World Cup officials should regard themselves as lucky that Leal was mentally stable and didn’t use his access to do harm to Ronaldo or any other member of the Portuguese national side. Still, despite this lucky escape, serious questions must now be asked of the security at the World Cup.
Ronaldo’s Portugal side were knocked out of the tournament at the group stage after the United States and Germany managed to amass more points than Paulo Bento’s side. They got off to a terrible start at the World Cup after they suffered a heavy defeat to Germany in their opening encounter, a match that they lost 4-0.
They then followed this up with a 2-2 draw with the United States before they then finally registered their first triumph with a 2-1 victory over Ghana in their final group game. Ronaldo even netted the winner in the latter match, which was only his second-ever World Cup goal in 12 appearances
It’s now been suggested that Ronaldo might decide to retire from international soccer in order to prolong his domestic form with Real Madrid. Ronaldo has recently suffered from a spate of injuries which have meant that he struggled for form at this World Cup.
The 2014 tournament is set to resume with the knockout stages on Saturday when Brazil take on Chile, which will then be followed by Colombia’s encounter with Uruguay.
